Johnson County public high schools produce 62 National Merit finalists

A total of 62 high school seniors from Johnson County public high schools have been named National Merit finalists.

The students are among 15,000 finalists who will be considered for National Merit scholarships to be offered this spring.

The local National Merit Finalists are:

  • Blue Valley High: Sarah Bergeson, Matthew Hamblin, Gautham Prakash, Holden Rolfs, Yilin Xu.
  • Blue Valley North: Olivia Cowin, Andrea Davidson, Reid Johnston, James O’Connor, Michael Sloan, Adam Smith, Rex Tai, Shireen Usman, Charles Wolock.
  • Blue Valley Northwest: Shelby Bottoms, Jesse Cutter, Rachel Hoffmann, Jonathan James, Emily Kartheiser, Quinn O’Rourke.
  • Blue Valley West: Nimish Mittal, James Orris, Cory Sagduyu
  • Olathe East: Carmen Christensen, Elise Fogelman, Annette Jardon, Rosemary Liu, Maria Schletzbaum
  • Olathe North: Deborah Bennett, Aaron Kruger, Kayla Sale
  • Olathe Northwest: Kristen Ramsdale, Nicole Sundell
  • Olathe South: Suhani Gandi, Erin Murray
  • Shawnee Mission East: Peter Bautz, Anna Bernard, Spencer Brown, Susan McClannahan, Kevin Simpson, Lauren Stanley, Gail Stonebarger, Emily Welter, Russell White
  • Shawnee Mission North: Sean Holloway, Billie Lubis, Alexander Montgomery

The finalists were chosen from about 16,000 semifinalists announced last fall, based on their academic records, an endorsement from their high school principal and SAT scores.
